To figure out
why your electric bill is "so high", the first thing you need
to do is to figure out your usage for the same time period of the
prior year. Look only at the amount of electricity you used in kWh.
Remember, a cost increase by your power company will also increase
the amount of your bill.
A typical American family uses 1000
kWh per month, If you're anywhere near that you're normal. Normal
doesn't mean good, though, since most people waste lots of energy.
Maybe you started heating lots of water for that new hot-tub? Do you
keep the temperature extra low in the summer or extra warm in the
winter?
An appliance that is not working properly can also
be a culprit. Do you notice anything that seems to be running all
the time?
