Do you avoid your basement like the plague because it is
always cold down there? What if it could be comfortable? Would you
spend more time down there? Think of the possibilities......... a
whole new room!
Here are some ways to help keep your basement comfortable
year-round.
* Add a return air intake. Keep it as centrally located
as possible. If you already have one, enlarge it! See
Free air conditioning,
compliments of your basement for more information.
* Add some supply
registers, around the perimeter of the room if possible. If you already
have some, keep in mind that the addition of a return air intake may
be good enough.
* Consider installing a thick pad under your carpet
if your on a concrete slab.
* Check for air leaks around doors and
windows. Consider replacing them if they are old.
* Feel a perimeter
wall. If it feels extra cold you may need to update your insulation.
*
Have your heating system checked. Sometimes if there is a malfunction,
the lowest level is the first one to suffer.
